Ghana: Gas explosion casualties hit 7 with 132 injured – govt confirms

7 persons have been confirmed dead and 132 people injured. 64 of the injured have been discharged and 68 others are still receiving treatment,a statement from Ghana’s Ministry of Information said.

The Ghana government expressed its condolences to families of deceased persons and its best wishes to persons injured in the Atomic Junction gas explosion on Saturday night.

The statement said, government commended the Fire Service, Ambulance Service and the Police service for the quick control and rescue exercise.It also commended the Medical Personnel who are attending to the injured for their professional services.

Ghana’s President ,Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo in a telephone conversation with security officials moments after the explosion asked for the full compliment of resources to be made available to the rescue and investigative efforts,the statement said.

It added that an investigation has begun into the cause of the explosion and will be followed with firm action to prevent future recurrences.

The statement further appealed to the Ghanaian public to kindly cooperate with traffic detours announced by the Police, while a help line has been made available to assist residents within the vicinity of the explosion with further needs
