Thousands hit the streets in South Africa seeking Zuma’s removal
Thousands of South Africans have gathered on Friday in the streets of Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg and other cities to march against the presidency of Jacob Zuma.
Led by the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) party, workers’ unions, civil society groups, students, politicians and the general public have come out in their numbers to support the call for Zuma to be impeached after the recent cabinet reshuffle that cost five ministers their jobs including the favourite finance minister Pravin Gordhan.
The DA has also tabled a motion of no-confidence against Zuma in parliament and it will be debated on April 18.
The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed its full support for Zuma who has survived many no-confidence votes.
There are reports of counter-protests organised by some youth leaders of the ANC.
